Church Log Entry 4/21/2007

Janice and I drove through Locust Grove today. Our only agenda was to just drive around to become familiar with the area. It was just a beautiful sunny day for a ride. Each time we drive through it feels more and more like this truly is the place for Redeemer’s Way.

I met with Pastor Scott this week, and I am fully released to begin recruiting our team. We already have one couple that has approached us. I will publish their profile soon. We are believing for a strong core team of 25+ adults before we plant.

Our oldest son Chris is in the process of creating an online youth forum. We will post the details once it is available.

Keep checking back for more updates.

It looks like this is going to get exciting!

Redeemer Revealed

I was blessed to have grown up going to church. However, unlike some people, I can not tell you the exact time that I accepted Jesus as my Savior. Seems like I have always known him (But not always walked with him daily.)

So for me it is amazing when I read a verse of scripture that I have read or heard a hundred times and it suddenly takes on new meaning. It is no longer words on the page, but it now has meaning deep within me. The word “Redeemer” is one of those words. It was about a year ago that Redeemer seemed to take on life. So what does it really mean?

Back in history, if a person owed a debt and they could not pay it, they could be forced into slavery, or become a bondservant and forced to work to pay off the debt. If a family member had enough money, they could pay off the debt and the person would be redeemed.

Deuteronomy 15:15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you…

So Christ has redeemed us from being a slave to sin. Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”

While in sin it was impossible to pay our debt, but Christ took on all our sins that we might be cleansed and given eternal life.

2 Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Because of Christ I am now redeemed from the curse of sin. Not only do I have the promise of eternal life, but I have life now!

If you have taken the time to read my thoughts, thank you. I also welcome your comments and questions.

Be Blessed,

Pastor Jon

VT Response

The entire team at Redeemer’s Way is saddened by the tragic events at Virginia Tech. Our prayers go out to the student body, staff and all the families and friends affected by this event. We pray that they all experience a spirit of healing and peace.

It is hard to understand events such as this, but this is the times when we most depend on our faith. Despite our circumstances with living in a fallen world, God is faithful.

God Bless,

Pastors Jon and Janice

The Journey Began

Late 2005 Janice began to have the heart to plant a church, and the desire began to grow with me. However I worked hard to ignore the call. On December 27th of 2005 I went and visited the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers GA. I needed a day to get away and pray. I began to question God, I thought that if I was called to plant a church, I would have a name for the church. With in moments I heard the words Redeemer’s Way.  Since that day the desire has grown to almost consume me 24/7. Soon I felt that we would start the church in about 2 years.  6 months later I was still saying we would start in 2 years. So finally I decided to set the time to plant would be in the first half of 2008. That is the date I believe in.  This is just the short version. Check back often to learn more about where we are in the process.

 God Bless,

 Pastor Jon
